In an effort to keep Wilmington’s vibrant art scene strong in this time of uncertainty for local performers, CFCC’s Wilson Center, WHQR 91.3FM  and The Arts Council of Wilmington and New Hanover County are launching the Wilson Center Ghostlight Series

In a release on March 17, Arts Council executive director Rhonda Bellamy noted the Cape Fear’s nonprofit arts sector has an economic impact of $55.8 million, employs thousands and generates $5.6 million dollars in local and state tax revenues (not including the cost of admission to events).

“Add to that the number of for-profit businesses that employ musicians, vocalists, and artists,” she wrote, “and the devastating impact of the COVID-19 pandemic becomes very real.”

Tonight at 7 p.m. they will launch their first series featuring a local musician, which will be one of the following: Christina Brier, Jared Michael Cline, Chase Johanson, Rhythm Bones, Daniel Rottenberg, Delia Stanley, and Johanna Winkel. Others will take the stage every night this week at 7 p.m. for a 30-minute performance.

The Arts Council will be accepting donations, to be distributed among the musicians, all of whom have been hit hard by the closing of live music venues and bars. As well, all donations will be tax deductible and can be made here. Donation links will be provided during each performance, too.

The concerts can be seen online at WilsonCenterTickets.com/Ghostlight-Series. Plus, there will be a bonus broadcast at noon each day on Wilson Center’s Facebook page, and WHQR will air the series featuring all artists at a later date.

Local and regional musicians (vocalists, vocal groups, solo musicians, bands, etc.) economically impacted by the public health crisis, COVID-19, are encouraged to apply now at www.artswilmington.org.

encore will be featuring musicians in coming weeks who are a part of the Ghostlight Series.
